La Leña Jr. de la Unión
Why we recommend it
This La Leña branch sits on the 700 block of Jirón de la Unión, right on the pedestrian street between the Plaza de Armas and Plaza San Martín. The chain, with locations in Lima and Huancayo, cooks chicken and meats over wood fire, and its official account also shows classics such as aguadito, pastel de choclo, sweet humitas and lemon pie. Our take: it is a family-friendly, no-surprises stop for lunch during a walk through downtown, closer to a chain chicken house than to a specialty grill. Google notes it is kid-friendly (high chairs) and it takes reservations. Curator's note: its Google listing is unclaimed and shows no hours; we loaded the general hours the brand publishes on its website (12:00 to 23:00), without specific confirmation for this branch. The photo is a product shot published by the brand.
