R18 Restaurante & Bar is at Jr. Ica 143, a few blocks from the Plaza de Armas in Lima's historic centre. The house says it was inspired by Peruvian cooking and by the national team qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and it shows in the décor: murals of fans and screens showing football above the bar. The menu is Creole and seafood, with snacks and burgers in the afternoons, and Google reviews keep mentioning the lomo saltado, the arroz con pollo and the drinks. Our take: it is a downtown Creole spot with a bar's pulse, better suited to a long lunch or a match with pisco than to a quiet dinner. It opens every day from noon, until 21:45 Monday to Saturday and until 17:45 on Sundays; reservations are made on its website and parking in the area is paid and scarce.
