About Los Pantanos de Villa

Los Pantanos de Villa is a wildlife refuge in Chorrillos, on Av. Hernando de Lavalle, managed by the Lima city government through PROHVILLA. Visits are organised into three circuits that start at the Interpretation Centre: the Traditional, a 1.5 km round-trip walk to lookouts 2 and 3 over the Laguna Mayor (some 50 hectares, according to the official website); the Génesis, with a 30-minute boat ride on a lagoon of about 2 hectares; and the Marvilla, devoted to birdwatching. PromPerú cites more than 150 bird species, including some 30 migratory ones. Our take: it is Lima's most accessible nature outing, flat and short, good with children or with binoculars; bring a cap and sunscreen, since the circuits are in the open air. It opens every day, holidays included, in four two-hour slots from 8:30 into the afternoon; slots are booked via WhatsApp from the website. According to PromPerú, admission is S/ 20 for adults aged 13 to 59, S/ 10 for children aged 5 to 12 and over-60s, S/ 8 for schoolchildren or teachers on educational visits and S/ 30 for foreigners; the boat costs S/ 5 and the catamaran S/ 7. Google lists card payment. Curation note: the official website does not publish prices (we took them from PromPerú's portal) and its afternoon slot times vary between pages (13:00–17:00 or 13:30–17:30); we loaded 8:30–17:00, which matches Google.
