About Museo Pachacamac
Museo Pachacamac is at km 31.5 of the old Panamericana Sur, in Lurín, at the entrance of the Pachacamac archaeological sanctuary; it is run by the Ministry of Culture and admission covers both the museum and the archaeological site. According to the Ministry, the museum reopened in 2016 with the collection from research at the sanctuary: objects of the Lima, Wari, Ychsma and Inca cultures and, as its emblematic piece, the Pachacamac Idol. Our take: this is not a quick stop but a half-day outing outside the city, and it is worth bringing comfortable shoes, a hat and water, as the museum itself recommends. It opens Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 to 17:00 (tickets until 16:30) and Sundays from 9:00 to 16:00 (tickets until 15:30). General admission is S/ 15 for all visitors, S/ 5 for higher-education students and S/ 1 for children and teenagers aged 3 to 17; seniors, teachers and people with disabilities get a 50% discount. On the first Sunday of every month entry is free for Peruvians and foreign residents. Guiding costs S/ 50 per group of up to 15–20 people, takes about 1 h 30 and is not offered on the first Sunday; the Pilgrims' Route, a special guided-only visit, is temporarily suspended for conservation work. The museum lends wheelchairs and, Tuesday to Friday, free electric carts for seniors and people with disabilities.
