"A crossover between theater and the visual arts, between Jacques Tati and Black Mirror. That is Ersatz, the icy glow of a future that is already present." Director, performer, and set designer Julien Mellano freely fantasizes about the humanity of tomorrow.

The strange protagonist of Ersatz is the result of an absurd alchemy between humans and machines. A solitary specimen, a remnant of a disenchanted future, who has suffered the consequences of a technological revolution that has failed to achieve complete balance.

In this wordless creation, Mellano explores virtual reality by manipulating real objects. With a somewhat unsettling humor, the creator draws the audience into a mysterious treasure hunt, where symbols and objects come to life in a kind of metaphorical tableau, strangely reminiscent of the vanitas paintings of the 17th century.
