About Iglesia de San Francisco

The Iglesia de San Francisco is at Jr. Áncash 364, facing the Plazuela San Francisco, two blocks from the Plaza de Armas, and is part of the same complex as the Museo del Convento de San Francisco y Catacumbas. According to the Municipality of Lima's tourism portal (Marca Lima), the Franciscans built their first church here in 1546; the 1655 earthquake damaged it, and the present church is a 1672 rebuild designed by the Portuguese Constantino de Vasconcelos and completed by the Lima builder Manuel de Escobar. Our take: it is the free door into the complex; it is enough to see the twin-towered façade and the nave, and it helps you decide whether the paid guided tour of the convent, a separate visit with its own listing, is worth it. It opens every day from 9:00 to 13:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00, with free entry. Curation note: it is a working church; hours come from the Marca Lima portal, and Mass times should be respected.
