About Museo Oro del Perú y Armas del Mundo
The Museo Oro del Perú y Armas del Mundo is at Jr. Alonso de Molina 1100, in Monterrico, Santiago de Surco, and has shown the collections of collector Miguel Mujica Gallo (1910–2001) since 1966; his interest in pre-Columbian art began with a tumi. The Museo Oro del Perú brings together pre-Inca goldwork and metallurgy along with textiles, ceramics, wood and stone from cultures such as Moche, Chimú, Lambayeque, Frías and Vicús; the Museo de Armas del Mundo displays weapons and historical objects from Peru, Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa, including pieces linked to Simón Bolívar and Francisco Pizarro (official website). Our take: these are two museums in one with a private-collection logic, more cumulative than didactic, and the weapons section surprises those who come only for the gold. It opens daily from 10:00 to 17:00 (closed 1 January, 1 May and 25 December). General admission is S/ 40; seniors S/ 32; minors aged 5 to 17 and students S/ 17; under-5s free.
