About Playa Punta Rocas
Punta Rocas, in Punta Negra, is the beach where the surfing events of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games were held; the Surf High Performance Centre (CAR), now run by the Peruvian Sports Institute with a pool and a gym, remains facing the shore as a legacy. The IPD uses it as a venue for the Peruvian Surf Circuit and the ISA chose it for the 2026 World Surfing Games, from 6 to 15 November. Our take: it is a beach for surfers and for watching surf, not for family swimming: Lucca Mesinas himself described it as "complicated", with waves coming from many directions. The beach is open access with no set hours; according to the press the CAR offers workshops and day passes, but its rates are not published in an official source. Curation note: there is no official information on lifeguards or parking, and January 2026 press reports on the Digesa rating contradict each other, so check the Minsa Verano Saludable platform before going in the water.
