On Av. del Pinar in Chacarilla sits the shop where Zara Alanya —trained in Spain, with a craft inherited from her mother and grandmothers— started her business in Surco; the brand now also has a location in Barranco. The counter mixes viennoiserie (cinnamon roll, croissant, mille-feuille) with signature desserts such as Cielo Morado, with rice pudding, purple-corn compote and chicha 'caviar', or Perú 70, a chocolate mousse made with Cusco cacao. According to Perú21, it won first place for Best Pastry Shop at the 2023 Summum Awards, second place in 2024, and received La Liste's Pastry Discovery Gem Award 2024. Our take: a pastry shop of fine technique that also works as a neighborhood café, with wifi and open from 7 a.m., better for coffee and dessert than for a long sit-down. Open daily until 10 p.m. (Sundays from 8 a.m.); Google lists free street parking.
