El Aguajal
Why we recommend it
El Aguajal is a small Lima chain of Amazonian cooking —six branches between Lima and Arequipa— and this Jesús María room is among the best loved: a small space, a long menu of juanes, tacacho with cecina, patarashca, chonta salad, aguajal chaufa and cocona and camu camu juices. The Premios Somos named it Lima's best Amazonian food in 2024, and Summum nominated it in regional cooking in 2025. Our read: this is how you taste jungle ingredients without travelling, and at a contained price; the room is small and fills at lunchtime, so book or come early. One caveat: their own site says they close at 5 p.m. while Google says 9 —check before heading out at night.
