Parque de la Exposición

The park Lima opened in 1872 for its great industrial exhibition: gardens, a lagoon and historic pavilions —Morisco, Bizantino, the Chinese Fountain— between the Museo de Arte de Lima and the Museo Metropolitano, free to enter.

About Parque de la Exposición

Parque de la Exposición sits on Av. 28 de Julio, in central Lima. It opened on 1 July 1872 as a leisure area and a showcase for Peruvian industry, and at one point served as a national museum and zoo, with a 1,000 m² lagoon for boating (Marca Lima portal of the Lima city government). Inside are the Palacio de la Exposición —now the Museo de Arte de Lima—, the Morisco and Bizantino pavilions from 1872, the 1904 Seismographic Pavilion, the 1924 Chinese Fountain, the former Ministry of Development —now the Museo Metropolitano de Lima—, the Teatro Sebastián Salazar Bondy and the Japanese Garden. Our take: it is downtown's great historic park and works best as the prelude or finale to a visit to MALI rather than as a stand-alone destination; Google lists a play area, picnic space and a skate area. It opens Monday to Sunday from 6:00 to 19:00 with free admission, according to the municipal portal; Google says dogs are allowed.
