About Casa de la Cultura Criolla Rosa Mercedes Ayarza

The Casa de la Cultura Criolla Rosa Mercedes Ayarza is at Jr. Moquegua 376, on the corner of Jr. Rufino Torrico, in the Cercado de Lima: it is the house where composer and researcher Rosa Mercedes Ayarza de Morales lived, restored by the Municipality of Lima through Prolima and opened to the public on 17 October 2022. It is devoted to safeguarding and spreading criollo music and song; it has ten themed rooms on a single floor, with Rosa Mercedes's scores, family photographs and period furniture, and it preserves a stretch of the colonial Acequia Alta canal (Mincetur tourism inventory; Expreso). Our take: it is a short, free visit that is worth it as much for the house as for the subject, and it pays off more if it coincides with one of the events and workshops it programmes. It opens Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 to 17:00, with guided visits, and admission is free. Curation note: it has no website or phone of its own; the hours and admission come from Mincetur's tourism inventory record (2024) and match Google.
