About Casa O'Higgins - PUCP
Casa O'Higgins is at Jirón de la Unión 554, and is run by PUCP's Instituto Riva-Agüero. It is an early 19th-century mansion that was Bernardo O'Higgins's residence; it was restored between 2006 and 2008 under an agreement with the Government of Chile to serve as a gallery. It has four exhibition rooms with temporary shows of art, crafts and contemporary culture —in 2025 they hosted the national nativity-scene contest, a show on the marinera and another on Herbert Rodríguez— and, on the second floor, the permanent room of the Museo de Artes y Tradiciones Populares «Luis Repetto Málaga». Our take: it is the easiest cultural stop in the historic centre, free and on the busiest street, and it is worth it as much for the courtyard and galleries of the house as for whatever is on the walls at the time. It opens Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00, with free entry and no registration; phone (01) 626-2000, extension 6624. Curation note: the programme changes often; check the IRA exhibitions page before going.
