About Museo Convento Santo Domingo
The Museo Convento Santo Domingo occupies the Dominican complex at Jirón Camaná 170, in the Historic Centre. According to the museum, the route takes in the first cloister, decorated with Sevillian tiles since 1604; the library of more than 25,000 books; the chapter house where the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos was founded; the chapels with relics of Saint Rose of Lima, Saint Martin de Porres and Saint John Macías, Saint Rose's crypt and the 46-metre tower, with a view towards the Callao coast. Our take: it brings together religious and civic history —Lima's saints and the origin of San Marcos on a single route—, and the climb up the tower adds a finale with a view. It opens Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 17:00; closed on Mondays. General admission is S/ 15 and includes the guided visit; seniors over 60 and university students with ID pay S/ 7, children aged 5 to 16 S/ 2 and under-5s are free. Under Civil Defence rules, the tower can only be climbed by visitors aged 18 and over; Google lists wheelchair-accessible entrance, space and restrooms.
