About Museo de Artes y Tradiciones Populares "Luis Repetto Málaga" - PUCP

The Museo de Artes y Tradiciones Populares «Luis Repetto Málaga» belongs to PUCP's Instituto Riva-Agüero and now has its permanent room on the second floor of Casa O'Higgins, at Jirón de la Unión 554. According to the IRA, its collection exceeds 10,000 pieces and was built from donations by collectors and researchers: retablos by Florentino Jiménez, more than a thousand festival and theatre masks gathered by Guillermo Ugarte Chamorro, masks, costumes and carved gourds from Arturo Jiménez Borja, and Cusco religious imagery and Quinua ceramics from the Doris Gibson collection. The permanent room shows early 20th-century carved gourds, Amazonian headdresses, regional ceramics and work by Cusco painter Julio Villalobos. Our take: it is not a separate visit but the upstairs of Casa O'Higgins; go up with time, because that is where the house stops being a gallery and becomes a museum. It opens during the house's hours, Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00, with free entry. Curation note: the IRA does not publish separate hours for the museum; Google also lists Mondays, but Casa O'Higgins is closed that day.
