About Museo del Cerebro

The Museo del Cerebro is inside the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Neurológicas (INCN), at Jr. Áncash 1271, in Barrios Altos, and opened on 26 August 1997 to support the training of medical students, schoolchildren and university students. According to Andina, the collection holds some 2,000 preserved human brains, 300 of which are on display in a room of brains without pathologies, with another room of fetuses with nervous-system malformations and a large room of brain diseases (infections, tumours, degenerative diseases). Our take: it is a medical museum before it is an attraction, raw and instructive at once, and it is not for everyone: real organs and fetuses are on view. It opens Monday to Saturday from 7:00 to 13:00 and the last group goes in at 12:00; maximum capacity is 60 people and school or university groups must book by phone. General admission is S/ 13, S/ 6 for over-60s, people on voluntary military service and teachers, S/ 5 for university and technical students and S/ 2 for schoolchildren; people with disabilities enter free. Curation note: Google shows opening at 8:00; we used the hours on the INCN page.
