About Museo Metropolitano de Lima
The Museo Metropolitano de Lima occupies the neoclassical building of the former Ministry of Development, from the mid-1920s, at Av. 28 de Julio 800, on the corner of Petit Thouars, on the southern edge of the Parque de la Exposición; it is run by the Municipality of Lima and opened its rooms on 10 October 2010. According to the Municipality's tourism portal (Marca Lima), it has no art collections: it was conceived as an audiovisual route through the history of Lima, with one room per theme and models, stage sets, holograms and videos; the same building houses the Galería Limaq, the Taulichusco auditorium and the Biblioteca Metropolitana, with a historical archive and newspaper library open to the public. Our take: it is more educational show than a museum of objects, which is why it works with children and school groups; anyone looking for original pieces will find more in other museums downtown. It opens Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00. General admission is S/ 10, and S/ 5 for seniors, higher-education students and CONADIS card holders. Curation note: it has no website of its own; hours and prices come from the Marca Lima portal, and a 2023 article said visits run in guided sessions with limited capacity, so it is worth confirming times at (01) 330 3899.
