Chifa cantonés centenario de la calle Unión · barranco · $$
Gran Chifa Chung Yion
Why we recommend it
It sits at Jr. Unión 126, a few steps from Barranco's main square, behind a yellow facade with a red Chinese-style gateway. According to a 2024 piece by the Lima Chamber of Commerce, the story begins with Juan Tong, who arrived in Callao in 1919, started out as a kitchen assistant for founder Vicente Yon and eventually took over the restaurant; today it is run by his daughter Ana Tong. The menu is textbook Cantonese chifa: fried rice, noodles, wontons, kam lu wantan and griddled kay ten, with the Chaufa Centenario and Tallarines Centenarios as house dishes. Our take: this is not a chef-driven chifa but a heritage one, measured by consistency and long lingering meals rather than surprise. It opens every day from noon; Monday to Thursday it closes between 4:30 and 6 pm, and reservations are handled via WhatsApp. Curator's note: its official website does not load and the Google listing could only be checked in limited view, so the venue's services and amenities could not be fully verified.
