La Cusqueñita Tradicional Pikantería
Why we recommend it
It sits at Av. Centenario 800 in Wanchaq, a few blocks from the Centro Artesanal and Av. El Sol: a large picantería hall with a stage, because lunchtime comes with folk dancing and live music — the thing reviewers mention most, ahead of any dish. The menu is traditional Cusco cooking; among the items Google flags as popular are the frutillada and the pork chicharrón, and diners' photos show cuy, broths and rib plates. Our read: it is picantería and floor show at once, and you should arrive knowing that — anyone after quiet Cusco cooking will be uncomfortable, and anyone after a long lunch with entertainment has few better options in the city. It opens daily from 11:00 to 17:00, so it is lunch only: there is no dinner service. Reservations are accepted but not required, and it has a bar, high chairs and its own parking. Curation note: the house has no website of its own, so the phone number and hours come from the Google listing; the name was corrected to «La Cusqueñita Tradicional Pikantería», which is how the house signs itself.
