Comida criolla al aire libre, con vista al mar desde la Bajada de Baños · barranco · $$
Restaurante Javier
Why we recommend it
Javier sits at Bajada de Baños 408, the cobbled path that runs from the Puente de los Suspiros down toward the sea, and according to its own account every table is outdoors, on terraces with umbrellas and ocean views; the house signs itself "since 1996". The menu is popular-style Creole and seafood cooking: anticuchos, causas, ceviches, tacu tacus, rice dishes, pastas and ají de gallina, organized by section on its Instagram. Our take: the plate matters less than the table; you come for the view and the sunset over the Costa Verde, with decent Creole food to go with it. It does not take reservations, so on weekends and at sunset it pays to arrive early; it opens every day from 11 am to 11 pm and is pet-friendly. Curator's note: its official website did not load when we checked it, and we could not verify payment methods.
