About Museo de Sitio Huallamarca
The Huallamarca Site Museum is at Avenida Nicolás de Ribera 201, on the corner of El Rosario, in San Isidro, and is run by the Ministry of Culture. It opened on August 11, 1960 and, according to the Ministry, conserves and displays a collection running from the Formative Period (200 BC) to the Inca period, much of it from funerary contexts found at the monument and its surroundings: textiles, pottery, organic, stone, human and animal bone material. Our take: it is a short, inexpensive visit that takes less than an hour, and works as a compact introduction to Lima's huacas without leaving the financial district. It opens Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 to 17:00, and also on the first Sunday of every month, when admission is free through the Ministry of Culture's Museos Abiertos. General admission is S/ 5; higher-education students pay S/ 3, schoolchildren S/ 1, and seniors, teachers and people with disabilities get a 50% discount. Google lists wheelchair-accessible entrance, free wifi and free on-site parking, and flags it as good for kids. Curation note: the museum does not publish a phone number; the official contact is the email museohuallamarca@cultura.gob.pe.
