Parque de las Leyendas is at Av. Parque de las Leyendas 580, in San Miguel, and is run by the Patronato del Parque de las Leyendas Felipe Benavides Barreda, attached to the Lima city government. The route combines the zoological collection —with coast, highland, jungle and international zones—, the botanical garden and the recreational lagoon with huacas of the Maranga Archaeological Complex: Andina describes Huaca San Miguel, an administrative centre built of rammed earth, Huaca Cruz Blanca, an administrative-ceremonial centre of the Maranga chiefdom, and the Ernst W. Middendorf Site Museum, with more than 700 archaeological objects. Our take: it is bigger than it looks from the avenue, so go early and in comfortable shoes; it is worth it as much for the animals as for walking past a pre-Hispanic huaca on the same outing. It opens every day, holidays included, from 9:00 to 17:00 (ticket sales until 16:30). General admission is S/ 20 from age 13, children aged 3 to 12 pay S/ 10 and over-60s S/ 4; people with a Conadis card enter free with a companion, and boats, kayaks, an interactive farm and guided tours cost extra. Google lists a wheelchair-accessible entrance, a play area and that it is good for children.
