About Casa de Aliaga

Casa de Aliaga is at Jirón de la Unión 224, in Lima's Historic Center, steps from the Government Palace. According to its official website, it occupies the lot that Captain Jerónimo de Aliaga y Ramírez received next to the house of conqueror Francisco Pizarro, today the Government Palace; the mansion was rebuilt and remodeled after earthquakes and changes in architectural taste, and the same family has lived in it for 17 generations. What you walk through are its halls and interior rooms, with their original layout. Our take: it is not a museum with a labeled collection but a family home that opens to visitors, and it is worth it above all for the continuity of one family in the same place for nearly five centuries. According to the website, visits are always led by an official guide, every day from 9:30 to 17:00, and cost S/ 35 per person; they are arranged by phone at (01) 427-7736 or 993 756 773, or through the website's form. The house also rents its halls for weddings, private dinners and corporate events. Curation note: Google shows shorter hours (10:00 to 16:00) and the website does not publish reduced rates, so it is worth confirming before you go.
