About Museo de Arte de la Universidad San Marcos

The San Marcos Art Museum (MASM) occupies rooms on the upper level of the Patio de Letras in the Casona de San Marcos, at Avenida Nicolás de Piérola 1222, and is part of the San Marcos Cultural Centre. According to Andina (2024), it holds viceregal and republican paintings spanning more than 400 years; on Google Arts & Culture, where the museum publishes part of its collection and dates its founding to 1970, there are also portraits of San Marcos thinkers, folk-art pieces such as Pucará bulls and conopas, and religious canvases such as a Virgin of the Milk. Our take: it is a natural add-on to a tour of the Casona and the neighbouring Archaeology Museum, more for seeing the university's history in portraits than for a major picture gallery. Google lists it Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 17:00. Curation note: San Marcos does not publish the museum's hours, admission or phone; the hours come from an unclaimed Google listing.
