The house where Francisco Bolognesi was born in 1816, on Jr. Cailloma, turned by the Army in 1975 into a museum devoted to him and the combatants of the Morro de Arica: uniforms, weapons, documents and an original flag from the battle.
The Museo de los Combatientes del Morro de Arica occupies the house where Colonel Francisco Bolognesi was born, at Jr. Cailloma 125 (the old calle Afligidos), a few blocks from the Plaza de Armas; the Ministry of War acquired and restored it, and it opened as a museum in June 1975. Today it is run by the Peruvian Army. It is a single-theme museum, with ten rooms on two floors devoted to Bolognesi and the officers and soldiers who fought at Arica on 7 June 1880: uniforms, weapons, sabres, documents, an original flag from the battle and a French Voruz cannon, plus the inner courtyard and the period kitchen (Ministry of Culture leaflet). Our take: it is a short visit focused on a single episode of the War of the Pacific, worth it as much for the story as for seeing what a 19th-century Lima house looked like. It opens Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 to 16:00 (Ministry of Culture record; Google matches). Curation note: it has no website of its own and no current official admission price; an undated Ministry of Culture leaflet listed S/ 7 for adults and S/ 5 for students.
