About Museo Metropolitano del Teatro

The Museo Metropolitano del Teatro is at Jirón Huancavelica 338, in central Lima, next to the Teatro Municipal, and is run by the Municipality of Lima. According to Rumbos (2023), it holds the most complete record of Lima's theatre history, from the first corrales de comedia to the city's great theatres, with material on theatre, dance, zarzuela, opera, music, ballet and folklore, and on the show-business figures who passed through Lima, with an emphasis on the last century. Our take: it is a small niche museum, more an archive of mementos than a staged exhibition; it makes sense for anyone going to the Teatro Municipal or interested in Lima's stage. Google lists it open Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00; the Municipality's phone is (01) 632 1300, extension 1784. Curation note: there is no dedicated website or published fee; the Google listing is unclaimed and the 2023 article gave Tuesday to Sunday with a 13:00 to 14:00 break and free guided tours on the first Sunday of each month at 11:00, so it is worth confirming before going.
