Contraste
Why we recommend it
Contraste came out of a meeting in Bali: Angelo Aguado, a Lima-born cook raised in Callao with years of work in Germany, Spain and Asian resorts, and Godelieve de Montety, from Toulouse. They came to Peru on holiday just before the pandemic, stayed, and in July 2020 opened the first room in Surquillo; in 2022 they moved to Avenida La Paz, with a terrace, a bar and more tables. The menu crosses Peru and France — the day's tiradito in yellow chilli leche de tigre, grilled octopus with native potatoes and ocopa, duck confit with cassava purée — and the wine list, put together by De Montety, runs from France and Spain to Australia, Portugal, Argentina and Peru. Our read: it opens evenings only and closes Mondays, so this is dinner, not lunch; at over two hundred soles a head it is among the neighbourhood's expensive kitchens, and booking helps. Nominated for Summum 2025 in new restaurants and contemporary Peruvian cuisine, and for Contemporary Cuisine at the Premios Somos 2026.
