KION Peruvian Chinese
Why we recommend it
KION opened in Cusco in 2016 and came down to Lima at the end of 2020, Balboa first; in 2023 it reached the Summun awards' top six chifas in Peru, and in late 2024 it added La Mar. What sets it apart from the neighbourhood chifa is the dim sum: the rice dumplings are tinted with vegetables — red yemai with beef, purple kaimai with chicken, orange shaomai, green veggie — and come in packs of four, eight or twelve. Everything after that sounds familiar and tastes different: griddled taypa, kam lu wantán, a platter of meats from the Chinese oven. Soups are built on a slow-cooked chicken, vegetable and ginger broth, and there is a bar working pisco, sake and lychee. Much of the menu can be made gluten-free for S/5.
