ALQA - Laboratorio Gastronómico
Why we recommend it
ALQA operates inside the Museo de Arte Popular Andino, on Calle Sipas in Ollantaytambo, with open-air tables under a timber roof and a view of the hillside. The house calls it a gastronomic laboratory and frames it as a tribute to the Andean farmer: the menu is short, running from starters such as the altiplano tiradito (trout, añu, chestnut), the alpaca tartare with moraya or the corn cakes, to mains such as the alpaca ecosystem, the cuy soltero or duck in two versions, and closing with desserts of prickly pear, cacao and corn. Our read: this is a museum restaurant that does not behave like one — the cooking is produce-driven and authored, not visitor-cafeteria fare — and being in Ollantaytambo rather than Cusco makes it a deliberate stop rather than something you stumble into. Practically: it is worth booking through the site, cards are accepted, and Google credits it with a bar of its own and a very good wine selection. Curation note: hours were left empty because Google's panel will not expand the weekly table (it only shows today's closing time) and neither the site nor the booking system publishes them; the listing also carries no Google price range, so the tier was estimated from the menu itself (dishes from S/ 28 to S/ 94).
