Awicha
Why we recommend it
Awicha occupies a Lima casona on Jr. Domeyer, in Barranco, with a bright dining room, plants and a counter open to the kitchen. The house tells its origin plainly: chef Jason Román learned to cook with his grandmother in the countryside around Huacho, and builds a contemporary Peruvian menu on that base; the photos diners post to Google keep returning to the duck confit, the pork belly, the carpaccio, the ceviche and the cheesecake. Our read: "awicha" means grandmother, and the restaurant takes the word seriously — this is cooking from memory run through technique, not catalogue fusion — which explains the two nominations the entry already carries, Summum 2025 and Premios Somos 2026, both in contemporary cooking. Practically: Monday to Thursday it runs two shifts and closes between 4 and 7; Friday and Saturday it serves straight through until 22:30 and Sunday until 9; booking is advisable, dogs are allowed, there is free wifi, and parking is street-only, which in Barranco is the hard part. Curation note: the official site publishes no priced menu, so none was loaded. Awicha also has a second location in San Isidro; this entry points to the Barranco house.
