Chuncho
Why we recommend it
Chuncho sits on Ollantaytambo's main square and is the restaurant arm of a family project that has been in the town for more than forty years — the same one behind El Albergue, Destilería Andina and Café Mayu. The house sets out to recover the native dishes of the Urubamba valley using seasonal local produce, and the bar draws on the family's own distillery. It opens every day from midday to nine, with outdoor tables, wifi and live music on some nights. Our read: it is the natural stop between the Machu Picchu train and the ruins — hence the tourist crowd Google records — but the menu is not built for the passing visitor: there are vegan and vegetarian options and a good beer and tea list. Nominated for Summum 2025 as Restaurant of Cusco.
