La Mariposario Lima

La Mariposario occupies the Morphology building at Av. Mariscal La Mar 1332: the Salón Morpho is on the first floor and the Rooftop Garden, with a bar and greenery, is on the fifth, next to a butterfly sanctuary. The dining-room menu is presented as chef-driven cooking with produce from its own garden and Nikkei and Mediterranean touches: salmon tartare, Nikkei ceviche, pepperloin steak, smoked baby chicken and penne with garden pesto. Our take: this is an experience venue —butterflies, garden, theatrically served cocktails— where the cooking is a solid companion but not the main reason to go; it works better for a date or a family outing than for a purely gastronomic dinner. Practical notes: the house says entry is reservation-only (via Mesa 24/7), it is open Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays; the rooftop stays open until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, while on Sundays it closes at 5 p.m. Curator's note: Google shows a 10 p.m. close on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; we use the rooftop hours published on the official website.
