About Museo Andrés del Castillo
The Museo Andrés Del Castillo (MAD) is in the Casa Belén, at Jr. de la Unión 1030 in central Lima: a republican-style house that the Asociación Andrés Del Castillo bought and restored. According to the museum, it is named after Andrés Del Castillo Rey (1985-2006), a mining engineering student, and was created by his parents; the mining room shows what the museum presents as Peru's most important collection of crystallized minerals, complemented by rooms of Chancay ceramics, ceramics, textiles, pre-Hispanic metallurgy and goldwork, and the Cajón San Marcos. Our take: it is a surprising stop on a busy shopping street; the minerals are the reason to go, and the restored house, with its wooden portico, adds as much as the display cases. It opens every day from 10:00 to 19:00, except 1 January and 25 December. Admission is S/ 15 for nationals and S/ 20 for foreigners; seniors and students pay S/ 10 and S/ 15, and children S/ 7.50. Group and school visits are arranged with the museum.
