About Museo Gráfico de El Peruano

The Museo Gráfico del Diario Oficial El Peruano is at Jr. Quilca 556, in the Editora Perú building, next to Av. Alfonso Ugarte; it was created in 1999. Its permanent exhibition tells the story of the newspaper founded by Simón Bolívar in 1825 and of the craft of printing it: machines used in the workshops since the 19th century, such as the linotype machine, the roller proof press, the lead-melting furnace and the Vomag rotary press, declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation, plus a gallery of the paper's editors and temporary exhibitions (museum website and Ministry of Culture record). Our take: it is a museum of craft more than of journalism, and it pays off much more with a guide's explanation than walking among the machines alone. According to its Google listing, it opens Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 17:00. Curation note: the Ministry of Culture record gives different hours (Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 16:00) and there is no official admission price published; it is worth calling ahead.
