Al Frío y al Fuego
Why we recommend it
Al Frío y al Fuego is a floating platform moored across from Iquitos: you enter through the dock on Av. La Marina and a boat takes you over to the dining room, palm-roofed with an open terrace on the water. The menu crosses regional cooking with river and sea: doncella catfish in every form — patarashca wrapped in bijao leaves, a lo macho, with garlic, in medallions with cecina — cecina loretano-style with tacacho, a combinado loretano with juane and heart of palm, ceviches and tiraditos, plus a grill section and a vegetarian one; the photos diners post to Google keep returning to the ceviche and the fried fish. Our read: the boat crossing is half the experience and the sunset over the river does the rest; this is an occasion-and-a-view restaurant rather than a quick stop, and it is worth going with time to spare. Practically: Monday to Wednesday it closes at 18:00 and only Friday and Saturday stretch to midnight; Google marks the place as not wheelchair accessible, and around the dock there is only free street parking, which it also flags as hard to find. Curation note: Google carries two listings for the same business — one for the dock on Av. La Marina and one for the floating restaurant — and this entry points to the restaurant; the address loaded is the one the house publishes (No. 134), while the dock listing says 138.
