La Casa de Fierro
Why we recommend it
It occupies the Casa de Fierro at Jirón Putumayo 182, on the Plaza de Armas of Iquitos: the 19th-century prefabricated iron building the city attributes to Gustave Eiffel and that Google now describes as a restaurant beside a tree-lined square. The cooking is long-menu Amazonian regional food — diners mention the chaufa, the lomo with fettuccine and the camu camu lemonade — and the dining room keeps the metal panelling that gives the building its name. Our read: this is a two-layer listing, monument and restaurant at once, and what you climb the stairs for is the room and the square below rather than a destination menu; treat it as a stop in downtown Iquitos, not a gastronomic pilgrimage. It opens Monday to Saturday from 11:00 to 22:00 and closes on Sundays; Google marks the entrance and parking as NOT wheelchair accessible, which is to be expected in a two-storey heritage building. Curation note: the house has no website of its own (only Facebook) and Google publishes no price range, so the level is an estimate; the name was corrected from «La Casa del Fierro» to «La Casa de Fierro», which is how the house signs itself.
