About Museo de Arqueología Josefina Ramos de Cox - PUCP

The Museo de Arqueología Josefina Ramos de Cox belongs to PUCP's Instituto Riva-Agüero and is at Jirón Rufino Torrico 1164, on Plaza Francia; it used to be housed in Casa O'Higgins. It was created at the proposal of archaeologist Josefina Ramos de Cox, and its collections come from the institute's own research: the Pando mounds (San Miguel), Tablada de Lurín, Huaca Santa Cruz (San Isidro) and Puerto Supe, plus Paracas ceramics donated in 1971, coastal textiles and 19th-century English china found at Casa O'Higgins. Its permanent shows are «Lima Milenaria. Cultura y memoria de la vida cotidiana» (since 2022) and «Los Ychsma» (since 2015). Our take: it is a small, academic museum, meant for understanding everyday pre-Hispanic Lima rather than seeing spectacular pieces; it pairs well with Plaza Francia and the rest of the centre. According to its Google listing, managed by the museum, it opens Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 17:00. Curation note: the IRA does not publish admission or hours on its website; institute phone (01) 626-6600, extensions 6601–6602.
